Online classes

The great thing about our world today is how easily we can access things that were once very dependent on where you lived. My own kids have benefited from teacher mentors from all over the United States. For example, my youngest has been able to learn swordcraft from one of the top HEMA practitioners in the world.

My tutoring students have taken their online classes with me from many different states and also from several countries. All you need is a good internet connection, an iPad, laptop, or computer. If in a pinch, I’ve had learners use a phone screen from the backseat of a car, but that’s definitely not ideal.

Since a lot of what I do involves hands-on materials, I suggest having an area where you can use a tablet holder and/or extra camera to allow me to view both the student and their work area. On my side, I have one dedicated camera that views my work area as well as a camera that shows my face. In the recorded sessions, if I’m sharing my work area screen, you will not be able to view my face or your child’s face. During class, they can view both, just as I can see their face and work areas.
